We sing “it’s the most wonderful time of the year,” but the holidays can be overwhelming with the demands of holiday parties, buying gifts, baking cookies, cooking meals, decorating the home, and making memories – especially if you’re a woman struggling with symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.
Women in their 40s and 50s and beyond need less stress, not added pressure. Here are my tips for saying NO to holiday anxiety and YES to year-round wellness.
Decline. Decline. Decline.
Time is your most precious resource. Use it wisely. As I have written before, your calendar is a reflection of your priorities, so I encourage you to be judicious with your schedule. Time is our greatest asset. Do you really want to attend that event? Say “no, thank you,” and leave that time open. I know, it sounds almost too simple, yet it’s powerful.
Make time for yourself.
Remember that I just said, “Your calendar is a reflection of your priorities.”? Put yourself first by scheduling your wellness. Block off time for walks, register for that yoga class, and schedule an afternoon break to focus on how you can fuel your body with foods that build you up. You’ll feel better and more able to check off your to-dos.
Organize your to-do list.
Back to #1 – saying “no” more to events and tasks on your to-do list can feel impossible, yet it is achievable. Review your to-do list regularly for items that are not ESSENTIAL. During the holidays, the list seems to grow by the minute. Yet, is everything on that list truly essential? Would I agree if I looked at your list?
While the holidays can be stressful, I’m here to remind you to take care of yourself. Prioritize your well-being so that it truly is the most wonderful time of the year.
